British voters see US President George W Bush's policies as a great danger to world peace, according to a new poll published Friday.
The survey, carried out for the Guardian newspaper as part of a poll of international opinion found that 69 per cent of Britons questioned said they believe US policy has made the world less safe since 2001. Only 7 per cent thought that the war in Iraq and Afghanistan has increased global security. Some 71 per cent of the British public said the 2003 invasion of Iraq was unjustified. The poll, which was carried out in four countries, found that people in America's neighbours, Canada and Mexico also ranked Bush as more dangerous than Kim Jong-il. Only in Israel did the number of people, saying the US president made the world safer, outweigh those warning of his risk, 36 per cent to 25 per cent. A further 30 per cent said at best he made no difference. Voters in three of the four countries surveyed also overwhelmingly rejected the decision to invade Iraq, with only Israeli voters in favour, 59 per cent to 34 per cent against. In Mexico, the number saying the war was unjustified was as high as 89 per cent. People in all also overwhelmingly rejected the claim that the US was advancing democracy in developing countries, only 11 per cent of Britons and just 28 per cent of Israelis think that has happened.
